CircularBuild

About | Concept-stage materials technology initiative

Reinventing what walls are made of — and how they are built.

CircularBuild is a construction materials technology initiative developing proprietary printable mineral-bio composites for robotic and large-scale additive construction.

The thesis

The bottleneck is the material, not the machine.

Robotic construction printing is advancing quickly, but the materials being printed are still overwhelmingly mineral mixes with significant embodied carbon. Meanwhile hemp-based building materials have attractive thermal and moisture behaviour but remain hand-applied, variable and hard to industrialize.

CircularBuild's position is that the missing layer is a qualified, printable bio-mineral material system: binder chemistry, hemp specification, additive package, printer parameters, curing protocol and wall geometry, developed and validated together.

That is deliberately a materials company, not a printer company and not a cement company.

Inside the material system.

A short look at the thinking behind printable hemp-mineral composites — feedstock, binder chemistry and the printed wall section they are designed to produce.

Mission

What we are building

Develop scalable construction materials that combine lower embodied carbon, bio-based feedstocks and automated manufacturing.
Vision

Where it leads

Buildings manufactured with materials that use industrial resources more efficiently while storing renewable carbon.

How we work

Concept-stage, and explicit about it.

CircularBuild is currently at concept and early R&D stage. There is no commercially available product, no structural certification and no completed lifecycle assessment. Every performance characteristic described on this site is a development target.

We would rather be credible with partners than impressive in a press release, so this site publishes no quantitative performance or carbon figures until they are measured and attributable to a test method.

CircularBuild is currently a concept-stage materials technology initiative. Product specifications, performance characteristics and environmental claims remain subject to research, testing, lifecycle assessment and applicable certification.
